Yap Events
March 1st & 2nd
An event occurs every year on March 1st & 2nd. It is a cultural event to display all traditional activities, color, and history of Yap. Local dances, local food, games, and competitions, stony money carriage, log pulling, local attire display, and etc.
June 16
An event to encourage repeated visitors, returning residents, former expats, peace corps volunteers, and Yapese living abroad to come home to visit and enjoy the summertime months. Games, activities, local dances, local food, canoe sailings, etc. Next year's theme will focus more on the Yapese Chamorros who reside in Yap during the Spanish Era. We are encouraging them to visit Yap from Guam next summer on June 16, 2012 to participate as well as to commemorate the event.
Nov. 11, 12, & 13
A three-day event occuring on Nov. 11, 12, & 13 each year. This is a water sport event consist of canoe sailing, canoe racing, international canoe paddlings, traditional navigation skills display and teaching, canoe buildings & constructions, canoe capsizing, and all other water activities. Local dances, local food, and other land based activities were also performed during this event.

5th Annual Marianas Coffee Trail Run offers runners and walkers challenging jungle trail terrain, scenic
views of the ocean and much more as the course travelers old and new of coffee plantations on Saipan. 10K and 5K courses offered, starting at sea level and rising over 1,500 feet to the highest peak on Saipan, Mt. 8th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival is an intimate island style celebration, showcasing local products,
food and drinks, arts, crafts and cultural dances. The truly bold won’t miss the opportunity to try Tinian’s
internationally renowned spicy pepper, locally known as “doni Sali”. All competitions are open to the
public, offering the perfect chance to make a new friends at the weekend celebration on the beach. To

7th Annual Saipan Marathon. This race continues to grow in regional popularity and grow in regional
popularity and features three runs: full marathon (26.2 miles) a ½ marathon (13.1 miles) and a 10k (6.2
miles) course. Starting and finishing at American Memorial Park, the course travels Saipan’s northern
greenery and western coast. Mandatory orientation will be on March 2nd, 2012 at the American
Memorial Park baseball field at 4pm. All participants must come and pickup race packets and bibs.
Check in time for all races on the event day must be at least 30 minutes prior to the start time. Cash
prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Male and Female for all three events. Medals will also be
awarded for the age division categories. Entrance fee: full Marathon $55 per person, ½ marathon and

11th Annual EXTERRA (Saipan) Championship is an annual international sporting event that takes place
in some of the most rugged terrain and jungle s of Saipan. Race starts with a 1.5k swim in crystal clear
waters, followed with a 30k mountain bike ride that travels island terrain to the top of Mt. Tapochau
and finishes with a 12 trail run that takes competitors past WWII relics and thought streets jungles and

23rd Annual Tagaman Triathlon, named for the legendary Chamorro chief Taga. Begins with 2k swim off
the PIC Saipan, followed by 60K bike along the islands beautiful bike course and a 15k run along the
western lagoon and though the American Memorial Park pathway. Cash prizes for the top 6 male and

14th Annual Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival & Beer Garden
This event is held each Saturday during Tourism Month at the American Memorial Park from 6pm –
10pm. Final night from 6pm – 11pm. International selection of cuisine from hotels and restaurants is

13th Annual Tinian Blue Triathlon & Reef Swim. Competition consisting of : 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride and
10K run. Reef Swim has three courses to choose from 1.5K, 3K and 4.5K. Wetsuits are permitted Bike
helmets are required. Prizes for Men/Women’s top three and other divisions. Event starts at 6:30am at
Tinian Taga Beach. Registration will take place on Friday June 8th, 2012 from 5pm to 8:00pm with the
pre‐race briefing starting 6 pm – 7pm at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino – poolside.
Awards banquet on June 9th, 2012 at 6pm at Taga Beach. Registration deadline Friday, June 8th, 2012.

4th Annual Saipan International Open Water Flipper Tournament is a 1.5K swim held in the awardwinning
waters surrounding the beautiful island of Managaha. Swimmers may use fins, snorkels, mask,
wetsuit or lifejacket. The tournament states at 6:30am, followed by an island style breakfast and awards
party on the beach. Pre registration takes place at the American Memorial Park from 4:30pm ‐ 6:30pm
on June 22nd, 2012. Deadline for registration is June 22nd, 2012. No registration on race day! For more

19th Annual Rota Blue Triathlon. Event consists of of two choices: A‐Type: 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride and
10K run. B‐Type: 2.0K swim, 90K bike ride and 21K run. Wetsuits permitted. Bike helmets required.
Prizes for Men/Women’s top three and other divisions. The pre‐race briefing is at 6:30pm on November
